View compareWatch Care Guide

Given our location in Dubai, your timepieces face unique environmental challenges—namely extreme heat, high humidity, and fine desert dust. To ensure your watch remains a legacy piece for generations, we recommend following this SJ&W Luxury Care Guide.
🧼 1. Daily & Weekly Maintenance
-
The Microfiber Wipe: At the end of each day, gently wipe your watch with a clean microfiber cloth. This removes skin oils, sweat, and Dubai’s fine dust, which can act as an abrasive on polished surfaces.
-
Fresh Water Rinse: If you have been swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool, always rinse your watch under a gentle stream of lukewarm fresh water immediately after. Salt and chlorine can corrode even the highest-grade 904L steel and degrade waterproof gaskets.
-
Crown Check: Before any contact with water, ensure the winding crown is fully screwed down. A single "click" of an open crown is the most common cause of internal moisture damage.
🌡️ 2. The "Dubai Climate" Protocol
Dubai’s environment requires specific precautions:
-
The "Red Zone" (9 PM – 3 AM): Never adjust the date on a mechanical watch between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM. During this window, the gears are already engaged to change the date; forcing a manual change can break the delicate calendar wheels.
-
Temperature Shocks: Avoid going directly from 45°C outdoor heat into a 18°C air-conditioned room while your watch is exposed. Rapid shifts can cause internal condensation. If you see "fog" under the crystal, bring it to our Al Ras boutique immediately.
-
Magnetism: Modern life is magnetic. Keep your watch away from speakers, tablets, and magnetic handbag clasps. If your watch suddenly starts running very fast (minutes per day), it likely needs a simple demagnetization.
📦 3. Storage & Protection
-
Avoid the Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to UV rays can fade "tropical" dials and dry out the essential lubricants in the movement. Store your watch in a dark, cool place—preferably its original SJ&W box.
-
The "Winder" Debate: For automatic watches with complex calendars (Perpetual or Annual), we recommend a watch winder. For simpler models, it is perfectly fine to let the power reserve run out and manually wind it when needed.
-
Strap Care: Leather straps do not love the UAE humidity. If you wear your watch daily in summer, consider switching to a rubber strap or metal bracelet to preserve the leather from sweat-induced cracking and odors.
🛠️ 4. Professional Servicing
-
Frequency: We recommend a full movement service every 5 to 7 years. Even if the watch is keeping perfect time, the synthetic oils inside eventually dry out, causing friction and wear on the pivots.
-
Waterproof Testing: In high-humidity regions like ours, we recommend a dry pressure test every 2 years to ensure the rubber gaskets haven't become brittle or lost their seal.
-
Polishing: We advise against frequent polishing. Every polish removes a microscopic layer of metal. To preserve the "sharpness" and value of the lugs, only polish during a full service interval.
